Clark County Launches Enhanced Yucca Mountain Web Site
February 11, 2008
LAS VEGAS – In response to increased interest by southern Nevadans to the Department of Energy’s proposed nuclear waste repository 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Clark County’s Nuclear Waste Division has launched en enhanced Web site that provides the public easier access to vital information.
The revised Web site has been reorganized and structured to facilitate access to county documents pertaining to the Yucca Mountain Project, the DOE’s proposed project to store 70,000 metric tons of spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste.
“We’ve produced a lot of materials about Yucca Mountain’s potential impact to public safety, the local economy and to the environment,” said Irene Navis, Clark County planning manager. “In addition, the new Web site offers fact sheets, videos, and a photo gallery. Access to the county’s bi-annual comprehensive community surveys provides detailed information about this important issue. “This enhanced site makes it easy for the public to find up-to-date information about the status of Yucca Mountain, the licensing process and the project’s future,” she said.
The site will also offer a kids’ page that will feature information about energy, the environment, and the animals of Yucca Mountain. An electronic coloring book also is in development. Visit online: www.accessclarkcounty.com
The Board of County Commissioners has passed resolutions opposing the Yucca Mountain Project since 1985.
